Train WOrker Leaders
Help workers take charge of their own education!
Use the national union’s resources to put local leaders on lost time (paid time away from work) for member-to-member training.
Expand opportunities for locals to attend each other’s trainings to learn from each other.
Bring on education staff to support local political education efforts and trainings.
Develop new guides and training tools, update existing resource libraries, and share them for locals to use.
Create ready-to-use workshop outlines and slide presentations, and provide train-the-trainer support.
Develop new trainings in core administrative areas like dues enforcement, financial reporting, and database development.
Provide officer training guides for local leadership positions (treasurers, presidents, recording secretaries, etc.)
Provide UE guides and materials on bargaining, contract campaigns, strike preparation, steward roles, grievances, organizing, and legal rights and legal resources.
Ensure online access when possible.
Ensure more continuous leadership development for locals.
Increase support for multi-local subregional trainings.
Support leadership development mobility through UE ranks. Build member preparation to run for roles across regional and national leadership.
Expand mentorship and training programs to prepare members to be hired on to UE staff when vacancies occur, so that our union hires from the rank-and-file when possible.
Ensure our union prioritizes training to support workers of color and other underrepresented communities in moving to UE leadership.
Expand education programs designed for newer leaders and advanced programs for experienced leaders, including UE labor history and militant unionism.
